Breath. Light. Remember. Repeat.

Four years ago today, my mother-in-law Jenny passed. Just over ten years ago, my step-mom Sonia crossed over

I didn’t always love these women as well as I might have. When I met my mother-in-law 33 years ago this week, I was a 17-year-old bride-to-be with very definite opinions about how my family would be different than hers.  For instance, my family WOULD NOT eat dinner in front of the TV. (Now, it’s my favorite dining spot. Oh, irony!)

When I met my step-mom,  I was 21, a new mama, and convinced my baby had all the grandmas he needed. Turns out, you can never have too many grandmas. I had A LOT  to learn. Both women did their best with what they had, and my life has changed for the better because I knew and loved them.

This season of love and remembrance reminds me why I turn to ritual daily. Lighting a candle isn’t just a performance; it’s a quiet act of love and memory, a way to honor those who’ve walked with us or journeyed before. Today, I light candles for these women, grateful for the lessons they left behind. I find the magic of growth, connection, story, curiosity, and love in the flickers and flames.

🕯️Who are you remembering this season?🕯️
